40% Controlled test
Course Information:
GCSE Drama is a popular option for students of all abilities that enjoy performing. You might want to be an actor or work in the theatre, film and TV; you might want to work with people and develop your communication skills; or you just might want to develop your own self-confidence!
There are many reasons why students find Drama an exciting and challenging course.
The GCSE course is based on two components:
- Your preparation for and performances in plays that include scripted and unscripted materials.
- Be prepared to perform in class and to the year group and adults in public performances
A written coursework assignment awards marks for evaluation and preparatory/exploration work undertaken on each performance.
This will be marked by your teacher in Year 10 and by an external examiner in Year 11. This counts for 60% of your final grade.
Controlled Test Exam
You will have to perform a short play or an extract of a longer play in front of the rest of your class
and an examiner. This will be marked by an external examiner and will count for 40% of your final
grade.
Students who have taken Drama over the past three years have gone on to take AS and A2 Level
Drama at Sixth Form.
They have also gone on to take BTEC Performing Arts at College. Either of
these courses prepares students for University or for Drama School.
