Foundation Certificate in Building Craft Occupations

This course provides an introduction into the Construction Industry. Students will experience a wide range of tasks carried out by Construction Trades persons. This will give the student an insight to how the industry works and if it is suitable for the candidate to pursue as a career.

The qualification involves building a written portfolio of work showing good understanding in the following units:

  • Health and Safety Induction
  • Handle and Store materials and Components
  • Fix Fixings and Fixtures
  • Cut, Lay and Fix Components
  • Mixing Materials
  • Apply Finishing Materials
  • Setting Out

We deliver the following skills required to pass these units

  • Understanding basic admin
  • Basic Health and Safety in Construction
  • Correct storage and transportation of materials
  • Bricklaying
  • Erecting Plasterboard
  • Fixing wall tiles
  • Mixing and understanding ratios of materials used in Construction
  • Plastering
  • Painting
  • Setting out in preparation for building

Entry Requirements
There are no specific entry requirements, just a willingness to learn.

Career Progression
Completion of this qualification will give you a start, ahead of others, if you wish to pursue a career in Construction through FE College or through the Apprenticeship route.
