Exam Board: AQA (unendorsed)

Exam: Students are required to complete three pieces of coursework comprising 60% of the overall mark. The controlled test totals 40% of the overall mark.

Course Information
At present, the unendorsed Art GCSE is examined by AQA which allow students to explore both 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional work through a series of 3 course work units and a controlled test. The course work units constitute 60% of the overall mark for the GCSE. The first 2 course work units will be directed to ensure students are secure in developing their artistic production to meet the examining board’s criteria. The third unit will be self-directed from a project title to final piece. Course deadlines will be set and must be met.

On the completion of all course work units, the controlled test will be undertaken by students, commencing March 2009. This will involve a 4 week preparation period culminating in a 10 hour exam during April 2009 which is conducted in silence; students complete a final piece of art work. The controlled test constitutes 40% of the overall Art GCSE mark.

Students will be expected to work in their sketchbooks in their own personal time and one homework per term week will be set. At the start of the course, students will purchase, at their own expense, an Art pack which will provide them with the art materials needed for production of homework. A studio fee of £10 will be charged to assist in providing students the very best access to a wide range of quality media and materials.

This course requires hard work and commitment.
